More Humor From Up North

Tomorrow morning Veronica and I will be heading to the Outer Banks.
Before I left, I wanted to share with everyone, a little humor that was sent to me by my friend Ken Gauthier, from up in Canada. Thanks again Ken for sharing this with us.

WHY WOMEN SHOULDN'T TAKE MEN SHOPPING
After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target. Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women - she loves to browse. Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target.
Dear Mrs. Samuel,
Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Samuel, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras.
1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people's carts when they weren't looking.
2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in House wares to go off at 5-minute intervals. 3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom.
4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, 'Code 3 in House wares. Get on it right away'. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money.
5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway.
6. August 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.
7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.
8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?' EMTs were called.
9. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.
10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were...
11. October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the 'Mission Impossible' theme.
12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his 'Madonna look' by using different sizes of funnels.
13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!'
14. October 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed 'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!' And last, but not least:
15. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, and then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here.' One of the clerks passed out.

Becoming Mobile Again

Today is my 3rd full day of being on my surgically repaired foot. The pain is deminishing as each day has passed. I start my physical therapy on Monday and I don't forsee having to go to too many sessions. In about 2-3 weeks I should be able to rid myself of the walking boot and get back to my sneakers. Today we went to Walmart to do a long needed food shopping trip. Because I have only been on my foot for 3 days and I still am not moving at high speed yet, I decided that it would be best to use an electric cart while in Walmart. The hard concrete would not have done my foot any good either. I never realized how slow those carts move. I figured that Walmart makes sure that those carts move extremely slow so that those who use them might find more things to buy rather than quickly whizzing by all of the products and not putting anything into your cart.
My friend Ken Gauthier, from Ontarion province in Canada, sent me the following joke. Thanks for sharing Ken.

Deer Season

A hunter and his friend were sitting in a tree stand stand near State Highway 481 in Maverick Co.Texas, early one cold opening morning.

Suddenly, a huge non-typical buck walked out over the corn they had spread in the senderos with a tailgate feeder. Moving quickly, the hunter carefully aimed the Leupold scope on his .300 mag at the unsuspecting buck.

As he was about to squeeze the trigger on this deer of a lifetime, his friend alerted him to a funeral procession passing slowly by down 481. The hunter pulled away from the gunstock, set the rifle down, took off his hat, bowed his head, and then closed his eyes in prayer. His friend was stunned.

"Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen you do. You are indeed the kindest man I have ever known, and I feel lucky to call you a friend."
The hunter shrugged.
"Yeah, well, we were married for 35 years."

More Moose Stuff

Ken Gauthier, my friend up in Ontario Canada, sent me the following story and photographs. I do not know the names of the people who lived the story or took the photographs but I want to thank all involved for sharing and a great job was done to save this young moose. Thanks to Ken for sending this my way.

Chapleau is located 120 miles west of Timmins, Ontario
Chapleau excitement! This weekend, we came upon this Cow and Calf on a very small island. As we were taking pictures, the Cow took off in the water towards shore and the calf followed. As we turned the corner of the island, we saw the Cow almost on shore but the calf wasn't even half way to shore yet. All of a sudden, I noticed that the calf wasn't going to make it. As we were heading towards the Calf, it went under a few times. At one point it stopped moving. As we got about 10ft away, it started moving and coming up to surface again. When we got beside it, all I could see was his ears. I grabbed the Calf by the ears to pull it up a bit and then I lifted the Calf right into the boat. The Calf coughed a few times and started breathing. We took a few pics as we rushed to shore to drop it off to Mommy. An experience of a life time.

The Often Mentioned Ken From Canada

I have many times made mention of my friend Ken from up in Ontario, Canada...more specifically Vermilion Bay. He is lucky enough to be able to fish on some fantastic lakes in the area up there. One of the many lakes that he gets to fish on is Eagle Lake. Ken emails me with quite a number of videos, photos and jokes. Many of which I share with everyone out there in blogville. He are a couple of photos of Ken fishing and guiding others so that they can catch big fish. The first photo is of a Northern Pike and the 2nd photo is of a real nice walleye that Ken caught....the walleye are great fried. Veronica and I usually do some walleye fishing our first day on the lake. That way we will have some great fried walleye dinners to start our vacation off on the right foot. Because we currently live on the East coast, the only time we get to eat walleye, is when we are up at Eagle Lake. We need to move closer to our friends and favorite fishing grounds. Thanks again Ken...for sharing these great photos and for giving me my fishing fix for when I am not able to actually be up there. See you in August!!!!!

Morris And Esther At The Fair

I received the following joke from my friend, Ken Gauthier, up in Ontario Canada. Thanks for sharing Ken and keep'm coming.
Morris and his wife Esther went to the state fair every year,
And every year Morris would say,'Esther, I'd like to ride in that helicopter.' Esther always replied, 'I know Morris, but that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, And fifty dollars is fifty dollars'
One year Esther and Morris went to the fair, and Morris said, 'Esther, I'm 85 years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance.'
To this, Esther replied, 'Morris that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars.'
The pilot overheard the couple and said, 'Folks I'll make you a deal. I'll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and don't say a word I won't charge you a penny! But if you say one word it's fifty dollars.' Morris and Esther agreed and up they went.
The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, But still not a word.
When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, 'By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!'
Morris replied, 'Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out....
But you know, fifty dollars is fifty dollars!'

Anything More Than A Mouthful Is Excess

Sorry guys...I'm not referring to "them". What I am referring to is the big fish shown below that has more than its fair share of teeth. Get a gander at the choppers on this thing.
It is a Giant Tigerfish (aka Goliath Tigerfish, African Tigerfish). Tigerfish and piranha belong to the same family (Characidae) but are entirely different species, according to someone well versed in such things. I believe that it was caught in the Amazon. Photos forwarded to me by my friend, Ken Gauthier from up in Ontario Canada.

I Learned Something New Today

I received this email from my friend Ken Gauthier up in Canada. I had no idea that this was there built into the box. Thanks Ken....for the info and for sharing.

Email from Ken:
I can't believe it's been there all this time . I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself. Whoever looks at the end of your aluminum foil box? You know when you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over.. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time. Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it, and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, Press here to lock end. Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out, when I was trying to cover something up. I'm sharing this with my friends. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this. I know you're going to go and check your boxes, so go ahead!

Tale of 6 Bears

My friend Ken Gauthier, from Canada, passed along this great story and photos. The story and photos were done by Tom Spears. Thanks go out to both Ken and Tom.

Black bears typically have two cubs; rarely, one or three. In 2007, in northern New Hampshire, a black bear Sow gave birth to five healthy young cubs. There were two or three reports of sows with as many as four cubs, but five was, and is, extraordinary. I learned of them shortly after they emerged from their den and set myself a goal of photographing all five cubs with their mom - no matter how much time and effort was involved. I knew the trail they followed on a fairly regular basis, usually shortly before dark. After spending nearly four hours a day, seven days a week, for six weeks, I had that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and photographed them. I used the equivalent of a very fast film speed on my digital camera. The print is properly focused and well exposed, with all six bears posing as if they were in a studio for a family portrait.

I stayed in touch with other people who saw the bears during the summer and into the fall hunting season. All six bears continued to thrive. As time for hibernation approached, I found still more folks who had seen them, and everything remained OK. I stayed away from the bears as I was concerned that they might become habituated to me, or to people in general, as approachable friends. This could be dangerous for both man and animal.
After Halloween I received no further reports and could only hope the bears survived until they hibernated.
This spring, before the snow disappeared, all six bears came out of their den and wandered the same familiar territory they trekked in the spring of 2007.
I saw them before mid-April and dreamed nightly of taking another family portrait, an improbable second once-in-a-lifetime photograph.
On April 25, 2008 I achieved my dream.
When something as magical as this happens between man and animal, Native Americans say, 'We have walked together in the shadow of a rainbow.'
And so it is with humility and great pleasure that I share these photos with you.
