One Step Forward And Two Steps Back

I went to my orthopedic doctor yesterday for my post operative followup visit. The doctor told me that everything looks fine but that it would take about 4 more weeks for everything to be totally healed up inside.
Since the operation I have gone for two walks. Each one was about 1.5 miles long and after each one I have had the same issue. Lots of pain and hardly able to support my own weight when I stand and put weight on the leg.
The worse part of it all is that the nights after each walk, I hardly got any sleep due to the pain in my knee.
Yesterday I did my walk and last night I might have got an hour of sleep if I was lucky. I have decided that it would be best if I not try my walks or if I do try one, that I only go about a half mile at most.
Today I have done all I can to get it back to where it was before yesterdays walk.
I will just have to be patient and let the healing process continue on its own without me trying to re-injure the knee.
Hopefully it won't be too long until I can get back into my long walks and my normal weightlifting routine.

Post Op Difficulties

I have not seen my doctor since getting my left knee worked on, so I haven't had the chance to find out exactly what he needed to do in there to get it fixed. From what I have heard it was more than what he had to do when he fixed my right knee, about 18 months ago. What I do know for sure is that my knee is really sore and it will take a little longer than usual to get it back into shape. I went for my first walk yesterday. I did one lap in my neighborhood and decided not to push it any further than that. I am going to try to go for a walk everyday as I try to build my left leg and knee up. My knee surgery has affected me most when I try to sleep. I am a side sleeper for the most part and usually I have one leg on top of the other when sleeping on my side. Unfortunately it does not matter which side I sleep on, there always seems to be pressure on my knee which in turn causes me pain. I will be so glad when i can get a good nights sleep.

Walking Crutch Free

Tonight I put my crutches down on walked on my own power. Still a little sore and stiff but weight bearing after less than 36 hours since surgery...not bad at all if I say so myself.
I will still tke it easy tomorrow and then start to build me leg and knee back up.

Finally Feeling A Little Better

I think I did a little too much too soon. After getting back from the hospital and the surgery, instead of laying down and putting ice on my knee, I decided to stay up, sit at my computer and goof off some.
That was definitely not the thing to do and I paid the price that evening when I went to bed and tried to get some sleep. I should have kept my leg elevated while laying down and spent a few hours applying ice to my knee.
My knee ended up swelling up and no matter what position I tried to sleep in, I could not find a pain free position and as result I don't think I got any sleep at all. I just laid there staring at the ceiling in the darkened bedroom.
Veronica came home early the next day to take care of me and  her being there helped me out greatly.
That day with Veronica's help, I did what I should have one in the first place and because I took car of myself, I was rewarded with a knee that did not hurt near as much as it did, the swelling around me knee went way own and I was finally able to get some sleep.
I was originally planning on putting some weight on my leg and knee tomorrow but I have decided to give my leg and knee an extra day. Monday is my new target date for walking unassisted. Once I get to hat point, I will start walking in the neighborhood again and build up the strength in my legs again.

On The Comeback Trail

Yesterday I had my surgeries. We arrived at the Outer Banks Hospital around 9AM and by 9:45 I was butt naked except for one of those disposable hospital gowns on with the opening to the back of course.
The hospital was very quiet with very few patients there. The snow, sleet and ice that had previously fallen probably had a lot to do with number of people at the hospital. Even the scheduled surgeries had been whittled down to hardly anything because of the weather. They wheeled me into my surgical suite and by 1in the afternoon I was in our car and on my way home.
The rest of the day and evening is a blur for he most part. The doctor had pumped so much numbing stuff into my hand and knee that did not get m feeling back until early this morning.
When the numbness wore off, my knee was starting to really hurt. Sleeping last night was a little tough. I usually sleep either on my stomach or on my left side with one leg on top of the other. Unfortunately neither one of those positions were going to work out for me.
Today I plan on taking it easy, get some minor projects completed from my bed, getting caught up on some tv shows that we had recorded and hopefully catch up on some sleep that I was deprived of last night.
I am already really looking forward to being able to put my crutches down ad walking with my own 2 legs unassisted.

This Is Beginning To Look Like A Real Snow Storm

Here are a few more photos and videos of our current snow storm. These were taken approximately 30 minutes after I posted my last blog entry.

It's Snowing Again Here On The Outer Banks Of North Carolina

The snow started falling about 1/2 hour ago. It was coming down pretty heavy for a while there. Here are some photos and videos of the snowfall:

Surgery Is Scheduled For Tomorrow Morning

I have to be at the Outer Banks Hospital tomorrow morning at 9AM. My surgery is scheduled for 10AM. I will be getting the torn meniscus in my left knee repaired along with getting my left hand middle finger fixed due to what they call "trigger finger".
I had put the knee surgery off for just over a year now and the trigger finger has been an ongoing issue for 3-4 years now. The finger gets worse in the Winter time.  I will be glad when I have them both done.
I am looking forward to the time when I can get back in the swing of things pain free.
See you on the flip side.

Another Change In Travel Adventure Plans

First off....our verification process through Airbnb has been completed and we have been accepted by our host in Paris. Information about the place we will be renting was discussed in the previous blog post that was written yesterday.
Last night I was goofing off on the internet just checking some things out.
I just happened to go the Norwegian Cruise Line web site. I stumbled upon a cruise that I had missed previously, when I had booked our reservations for our upcoming Ireland & Scotland cruise in September of 2015.
I found a 10 day cruise leaving and returning to Rome in March of 2015. Veronica and I had flown out of Rome last year while returning from our great Venice and other cities in Italy adventure. Veronica has wanted to see Rome. The price for this 10 Rome to Rome cruise was a lot cheaper than the one   that we had already booked for Ireland and Scotland. So I ended up changing our cruise to the Rome to Rome cruise and one really nice thing is that I was able to get the very last Aft facing balcony that was available on this cruise. Veronica and I fell in love with our very first cruise and the cabin that we had. It was an Alaska cruise and we had balcony cabin that was all the way in the back of the boat. It was great at night listening to the ships engines and the sounds of the ships  wake and the ocean. Plus we could go out and sit on the balcony and see all kinds of sites that we would have missed had we done an inside room.
So for this upcoming cruise we will be on the deck 8 in a balcony cabin in the back of the ship. I will be checking into the possibilities of going to Rome a day or two early so that Veronica and I will have some time to see Rome itself.
The itinerary for this cruise is a little different and for the most part, the ports of call are ones we have never been to. We will be on the Jade for this cruise...the same ship that we were on for last years Venice and Italy cruise. Below is our itinerary for this upcoming cruise:

Our Housing Issue For Our Upcoming Paris Trip Has Been Solved

After viewing hundreds of potential apartments for us to stay at during our 2 week visit to Paris this Fall, we found the ideal apartment, location and host for our needs. This arrangement meets all of our needs. This is the very first time that we have used the services of Airbnb and so far it has worked out well.

We are currently in the process of getting verified by Airbnb. This is part of Airbnb's safety process...to make sure that we are who we claim to be. Because we are new to the Airbnb community, we need to go through this process once. The next time we decide to use Airbnb this process will have been already completed and it will be a much more streamlined process.

Here is a link so you can see the apartment we chose:

Surgery In My Future

I finally decided to go ahead and catch up on the surgery that I have needed to get done. About a year ago I injured my left knee. An MRI showed the I had torn my meniscus. Plus I have had a long standing issue with my middle finger on my left hand.  I have what is called a "trigger finger". The middle finger locks in place and makes clicking sounds as one joint bone rubs over another. It is cause by the tendon in the finger to tighten up and not stretch like it should. Closing and opening the finger can get very difficult at times and it gets very sore too.
Because I was going to on the operating table and asleep while the doc scopes out my left knee, I might as well grab as many frequent flyer miles that I can get and have him do my finger while I am there. I will get both done on Wed, 2/12. I have to be at the hospital by 9:30 and I am second on the surgical list.
I want to get this stuff fixed while it is still Winter. I will have plenty of time to get my knee and finger back in shape prior to Veronica and I go on our vacations....Canada for fishing and then almost 2 weeks in Paris.

Got A Cold Front Coming Through

Today is got up to 68 degrees where we live. Pretty warm compared to what we have had recently. Last week 6 inches of snow and today a heat wave. Behind an advancing cold front the temps are about 20 degrees cooler. Here are some photos of the possible stormy weather approaching as the front gets closer:

A Moving Song By Andrea Bocelli and Katharine Mcphee - The Prayer

I have heard this song before and it always seems to move me each and every time I hear it:
