Update On The Garden

Well the garden is coming along pretty good. The pepper plants are starting to really grow and the corn has started coming up with some of the stalks being about 6" tall already. I planted 113 corn seeds and right now all but 5 have not broken ground. If I dont see any progress on those 5 seeds  I will re-plant seeds. Those 5 plants may be behind the other plants in growth but I am sure they would do fine as the season moved along.
Below are some new photos showing you the progress made in my garden.

Garden Is Ready Now Just Awaiting For Spring To Arrive

We had a few warm days so I figured that Spring was close by. Then it turned cold again but at least have have my gardens prepped and ready. I am expanding this years garden and growing only specific veges.
Last year I experimented with vegetables that I have never grown before. Some were hits and some were misses so this year I scaled down on the variety of vegetables that I would grow but expanded on my garden space.
My main garden will be for corn only but I will be planting about 4-5 different types of sweet corn.
I bought my seeds from Burpees this year.
They have a nicer assortment that the seeds sold at Walmart or Home Depot.
I also ordered a bunch of different Sweet Pepper plants that should arrive sometime shortly after 4/10.
The same with the 5 different types of tomato plants.
I got approximately 20 large plant pots to put out on the back deck and I have loaded them up with dirt and fertilizer. Most of the plant pots will contain the sweet pepper plants and a few with have tomatoes in them.
I am also going to plant a few varieties of potatoes...some on the back deck in two potato bag planters and the rest in my new garden area.
I will be planting 3 of the largest tomato plants in my new garden area along with some carrots.
I have another container on the back deck for some more carrots.
I had some spare fencing that I had used to fence around the big garden last year and I cut the leftover fencing into 3 sections and made my own tomato cages for those 3 larger tomato plants.
Everything is all prepared and ready. All I am waiting on is some warmer weather and for the rest of my plants to arrive.
I will take pictures of my new expanded garden space and the plants once I begin to plant.

The First Flowers Of The Year

With Spring time upon us, I have been starting to do my outside yard work. I mowed the yard for the first time of the year and boy was it tough. The grass was pretty high so it took me a while to get it done. I have also placed the mulch in all of the gardens and I planted a couple of Hostas around our Weeping Cherry tree in the front yard. Last but not least...I got the fountain and lights set up for the year. I always turn the fountain and fountain lights off during the winter months. I actually pull the under water lights out of the fountain along with the pump. I store them in a plastic container on the ground, in the garden, right next to the fountain itself. I also end up painting the fountain sections every year...just to keep them fresh looking. I hope that you enjoy the first flowers of the year...all daffodils. To get a close up view, just click on the picture. That will enlarge it.

More Photos Of Brookgreen Gardens

I went through several years of photos that I have taken and I found several more of Brookgreen Gardens. This batch should be better than the last. We have been to Brookgreen Gardens twice. These are of the 2nd visit. We had a better camera with us this time. I hope that you enjoy these.

The sign said "Please Don't Feed The Bears" Pardon me sir..I just wanted to see how the Red Sox did last night. Wow...they demolished the Yankees again!!!! The Red Sox Nation rules!!!!
Hard to believe that they made a statue based on me....huh!!!

What Once Was - Is No More

I have been spending some time cleaning out all of the gardens around the house. With the weather being so warm, some of the day lilies are still trying to grow. Once a good hard freeze, they will finally quit trying to grow and they will go dormant. Until then it seems like every couple of weeks I cut them down to just above ground level. Below are the last couple of irises that are blooming. This is the first year that they have bloomed so late in the year. It must be the warmer weather.

Flower of the Day

I almost forgot this little Asiatic beauty.
