Deer Fishing

My friend John, from up in Vermilion Bay Canada fowarded this story to me. Thanks John for sharing.

Four young Sitka black-tailed bucks fell upon good luck Sunday as they were pulled from the icy waters of Stephens Passage, Alaska by a group of locals on Tom Satre's 62-foot charter vessel.  Four juvenile Sitka black-tailed deer swam directly towards the boat.

Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking directly at the humans on board. Clearly, the bucks were distressed.. With help, the typically skittish and absolutely wild animals came willingly onto the boat. Once on board, they collapsed with exhaustion, shivering.

Here the rescued bucks rest on the back of Tom Satre's boat, the Alaska Quest. All four deer were transported to Taku Harbor. Once the group reached the dock, the first buck that had been pulled from the water hopped onto the dock, looked back, then leaped into the harbor, swam to shore, and disappeared into the forest. After a bit of prodding and assistance from the humans, two others followed suit, but one deer needed more help. Here he is being transported by Tom Satre.

Tom, Anna and Tim Satre help the last of the "button" bucks to its feet. They did not know how long the deer had been in the icy waters or if there had been others who did not survive. The good Samaritans (humans) describe their experience as "one of those defining moments in life." Im sure it was for the deer, as well.

Just Another Snowy Day On The Outer Banks

We woke up this morning to some cloudy weather. By the time Noon rolled around, we were looking at a Wintry mix moving through the area.
Started off as snow, changed to sleet and now it is just rain.
Here is a small video of the snow falling. Not much of anything compared to what many areas have experienced but it is a big thing here.

Mother Nature Did Not Appreciate My Attempts To Warm Her Up

As stated in yesterdays blog entry, I donned my European designed Speedos, lubed myself liberally with canola oil, put on the Nutcrackers Suite for inspirational value only and did my best pirouettes out in the brutal Arctic chill that Mother Nature has bestowed upon us, here in beach country.
By the looks of what is going on today, I think that I must have really ticked Mother Nature off because she is displaying an even more brutal display of her contempt at my genuine attempts to get her to warm up a bit towards me.
All of my attempts had really bad results. Not only was Mother Nature not amused with my antics and not even the slightest bit turned on by seeing me in that European designed Speedo, she woke me up to the sounds of the wind howling worse than it was yesterday, along with the outside temperature being even colder than yesterdays lows.
I just checked and we are having wind gusts up to 35mph and it is making the outside temperature feel like 9 degrees.
Was it something I said. How could Mother Nature not like seeing me in Speedos and all oiled up. I just don't get. I give up.
I guess I will have to ride this Winter out with those voluminous layers of clothing and a hot cup of coffee and count the days until Mother Nature decides on her own, that it is time to warm things up.
1 down...who knows how many more to go.
