Oh For The Love Of SPAM

Years ago, I was kidding around with my friends and telling them about the culinary virtues of Spam. Last night, I was rummaging through some old plastic storage boxes and stumbled upon a Spam recipe book that my friends had given me. Just browsing through this recipe book got me to drooling like some long floppy eared dog that was involved in a Pavlov experiment. I mean....what is not to love about Spam...SPAM Poor Boy sandwiches, Sauteed SPAM - onions -green peppers and Andouille sausage over a bed of safron rice, SPAM omelet, SPAM fritters, SPAM pancakes, Hawaiian SPAM pizza, Chinese noodles with SPAM chunks, macaroni and SPAM, Panko encrusted spam- then fried and placed over a bed of spaghetti and cover with provolone cheese. I mean the delicacies go on and on. I could go for days firing off culinary masterpieces that involve SPAM. This world would be a sadder place if it were not for SPAM. Maybe it is time for all of you SPAM lovers to unite. Personally...I am really fed up with me and my SPAM being kicked to the curb like last years fruitcake!!!!! Are you with me on this???? If anyone out there would like to have a recipe from this book, just let me know. I will be more than happy to spread the SPAM joy.

HA! I had my first introduction to spam a year ago, a fried spam sandwich with a perfectly cooked over-easy egg, some shredded cheddar, and a leaf of fresh lettuce. I was hooked. But I gotta tell ya, I prefer canned corned beef and corned beef hash ... ooooh yea!

Oh dear, your post about Spam made my "teeth water!" That's a phrase my kids made up when they felt like they were going to puke! I hate Spam! Hate it! My mother used to mix it up with mayonnaise and serve it cold. Dad would MAKE me eat it because "Mother made it" and it was "good for me." I shudder to think of that taste!
YUCK!

As a kid, we had a lot of fried Spam and gravy. The gravy was pretty good, but I just didn't like Spam all that much. And that gloppy nasty stuff that slithers out of the can was always gross. So I swore once I got married, we'd never have Spam. I had to eat Spam when I was poor and that's all mom and dad could afford.

When my kids were growing up, I still stayed true to that promise. I wasn't going to serve that stuff in my house.

Then when my daughter got to college, she called up one day to talk. She mentioned she had just made a friend who worked at Hormel...and introduced her to Spam. She loved it! Then she asked me, "How come WE never had Spam?"!!!

You can't win...
